BEST OF NEW YORK 2010
Health & Self • Best Facial

“Before she even puts her hands on your face, Julia March knows what you had for breakfast, how much coffee you drink, if you’re trying to quit smoking and any chronic pain you’ve been dealing with. It’s the kind of information you’d expect a doctor to want to know, but not necessarily the woman who’s going to rub cream into your skin. Her techniques are outstanding, of course—the massage that accompanies each treatment will lull you into a semi-comatose state—but the in-depth interest she takes in each client’s overall well-being, plus her targeted consultations on integrating natural ingredients into daily skincare routines (yogurt face masks, olive-oil hair treatments), make her exceptional. A one-woman show, March has the full complement of facial techniques in her tiny Soho office (dermabrasion, glycolic acid), but her standard, well-priced facial, using gentle, plant-based aromatic oils products from Anakiri and Shira will leave you glowing.”

AllureBEST OF BEAUTY ISSUE, October 2009

“Aesthetician Julia March's no-frills office is a far cry from her former swanky digs, where she charged close to $400 for a facial. But the new place suits her businesslike approach to skin care. Our session was a blur of fruity-smelling masks and nearly painless extractions. A week later, our blemishes were nonexistent. March really does mean business.”

One of the sparkling gems at the unassuming, slightly crunchy Soho Health & Wellness Center is Julia March Integral Skin Care, a one-room, one-woman operation established in 2002 that specializes in top-of-the-line facials. Here, the delightful Julia March employs a “whole person" approach to skincare, starting with an intensive sit-down consultation– assessing skin problems, medical conditions, diet, sleep habits, and stress level– to determine the best facial for each client. Believing that the skin reflects inner health, March integrates her Slovak grandmother's traditional beauty secrets (masks of sour cream and fresh berries) with the latest skincare technology, and accents it all with her training in Vortex Healing, reiki, reflexology, and massage. Her most lavish treatment is the two-hour Alpha State Facial, which uses the Future-Tec system (comprised of laser, microcurrent, ultrasound, and vacuum) to exfoliate, plump fine lines, and stimulate collagen; massage and energy work is also incorporated to bring active brain waves to a resting (alpha) state. All treatments are finished with a hand, arm, neck, and shoulder massage and foot reflexology, leaving the body blissfully relaxed and recharged. With the assistance of her divine-smelling products – by Luzern, Anakiri, Environ, and Shira – and her package incentives, March makes it easy to get on track to healthy, glowing skin and physical well-being.

Hot List of Holistic Facials

March is a masterful facialist, capable of calming skin woes and a monkey mind in one facial appointment. (Try the Organic Bliss or the Healing Zen facial.) She's made a study of many modalities, including Vortex Healing, a type of energy work, and naturopathy, so while your skin is being slathered in a lactic-acid-rich yogurt peel or March's own mask of rose, oats, and propolis, your chakras line up, your brainwaves slow down, and, at the end of the service, your skin emits the glow of a woman managing her stress.

July-August 2009

"Julia March uses energy work (Reiki and Vortex Healing®, among other techniques) in the Alpha State Facial ($325) to bring brain waves to resting frequencies (the alpha state). It complements the treatment's more clinical steps, like microdermabrasion and micro-current muscle lifting. Her goal: 'to treat the whole person'. Call it the mind-beauty connection."

"March believes the skin mirrors the soul. That's why her intake form is so detailed and why her two-hour Alpha State Facial includes Vortex Healing® (akin to Reiki). March says that it "works deeply on the emotional levels" to relieve stress and it complements the clinical steps like microcurrent muscle lifting and microdermabrasion. The setting, in the Soho Health & Wellness Center, is modest, but it`s March you're here for. She slowed my chattering mind to a near silence and soothed my flaky skin with a lactic-acid peel. I left glowing inside and out."

Teen Scene
If you're into home remedies – like mixing yogurt, berries and honey to make a great facial mask – then you're in for a treat at Julia March Integral Skin Care. Julia is an absolute goddess when it comes to making your skin look fresh, young and totally amazing. Before beginning the facial, Julia sits down with you in her treatment room – a very nice, cozy room with burning candles and aromatherapy that puts you right at ease – and goes over everything under the sun involving your skin. She'll ask you everything from how many glasses of soda you drink a day to how often you work out to any health problems you might have, so that she can really customize the facial for you. And then comes the facial! With 9 facials to choose from, there's something for everyone. But the one to try is definitely the Splash Facial, which involves tons of different masks, scrubs and creams that clean up your skin in a heartbeat. After blasting galvanic current on your skin to open up the pores, she'll begin the extractions – which are surprisingly painless! To end this amazing treatment, Julia prepares a mix of sour cream, kiwi and berries to really make your skin radiant and glowing. Your skin will thank her!

Editorial Review for Julia March Skin Care by Corrina Laughlin

In Short
Unlike most New York aestheticians, Julia March believes in a holistic approach to skin care. Come in for a facial and you will find she'll give you a hand massage, do foot reflexology and even perform her Vortex Healing (which is kind of like Reiki) technique. She eschews most of the high tech options on the market but she does offer microdermabrasion, and a new Alpha State facial which uses an energy field that supposedly not only clears your skin but actually clears your mind too. User Reviews for Julia March Skin Care

I literally joined citysearch so that i could review her--she's THAT good

i'm sort of hesitant to throw such a glowing review up here, as part of me wants to selfishly keep julia to myself... i'm petrified she'll become a celebrity magnet if the rest of the world catches on to this, and i'll have to book a year in advance instead of a week... but frankly, she deserves it. i also know how frustrating it is trying to find an exceptional esthetician; even in new york city, perfection can be hard to come by. basically, i feel morally obligated to share my knowledge, after a 4 year search to find this woman. i will NEVER stray. i have been seeing julia about once every two months for the past year, and she has utterly transformed my skin, not to mention my body. the results are absolutely visible, both externally and internally. her techniques are unusual, and primarily based in an astonishingly vast knowledge of herbs and plants... while working, she dishes out tons of info on herbal remedies for both skin, body, and mind: from breakouts to cramps to liver, she's got a cure for everything.... it's all about taking the mystery out of healthy skin... and i've actually been able to absorb all of the info--which she dishes out in reserved amounts, so as not to overwhelm--and have gradually been adding to my regime. beyond that, her entire process results in total bliss, as she is so incredibly generous and giving in the work... ah, it's difficult to explain precisely, but she's just SO attentive... and you are actually guaranteed to get HER, instead of getting a random esthetician every time you go into a spa-- like most places in the city. i've actually been able to build a relationship with her, PLUS, she KNOWS my skin. i simply cannot rave about her enough. this is without a doubt THE best facial experience in the city, and citysearch would do well to acknowledge it. i would know, i've been to just about every spa in nyc, and this is the first time i've ever felt compelled to write a rave. she's INCREDIBLE. The best facial I have ever had...

I read about Julia March in Allure Magazine... My facial with Julia was amazing. She takes her time and uses a lot of natural ingredients. I went from having bright red skin to a calmed and soothed normal color. That's an amazing thing to accomplish in an hour and a half. She has a little studio in Soho, but that's really all you need. She's very friendly and warm, and very down to earth. I am an extremely picky customer, so my review is the real deal. Julia is the shizzle. Pros: Excellent facialist... quite possibly the best... best kept secret
Cons: A little pricey...
